As I enter my third week post-op (progress pics to come), I’m feeling so much better than when I had last written an update that first week post-op. After 22+ hours on the road, we’re back in Colorado and I’m continuing my recovery at our friends home in Winter Park, where we’ve been staying since September after returning from our NOLA trip for my Stage One surgery. As I type this, the mountains surrounding us are covered in white that shine like diamonds in the warm Colorado sun and while it’s a little early for Winter’s appearance (it was 70 degrees in NOLA during most of our stay), I can’t think of a better place for recuperation.
It’s actually a little hard to believe it was almost only three weeks ago that we found ourselves back at our sweet little airbnb in preparation for my Stage Two surgery. At the same time, it feels like it’s been much longer. See: Winter weather above.
Most of the photos below are from the day of surgery and speak for themselves so I won’t bore you with a lot of words. Suffice it say, while no one ever looks forward to surgery, I was mostly feeling excited, yet also calm, about being back in NOLA and was ready for Stage Two.
The night before:
Surgery morning started off bright and early (as always it seems), but before heading to the Center, I had to “go back to the videotape” from one of Marie Forleo’s live sessions for her free, private mini-immersion course for those of us who had purchased her NY Times best selling book, “Everything is Figureoutable” in advance. It was an excellent, short and sweet course giving us some simple tools we can use to remind ourselves during times of stress, pain, confusion, frustration, etc., that everything really is figureoutable.
If you haven’t heard of Marie, than please come out from under that rock and get her book or view episodes of her award winning MarieTV on YouTube or listen to her podcast (the audio version of MarieTV) or all of the above. I highly recommend all of the above. She is THE sh!t, y’all.
Anyway, Marie was hosting one of her live Q&A’s for participants while we were driving down to NOLA and unfortunately, the video (along with the audio) kept dropping thanks to a crappy cell signal in Texas. Just as she was giving a shout out to some “wins”, I could’ve sworn she was starting to say my name and, of course, it dropped once again. ARGH! Thankfully, the Q&A’s were recorded and available for rewatching for a limited time. I didn’t want to miss forgetting so that morning I fast forwarded the video to see if I was correct.
Sure enough, she gave me a shout out on my comment in the chat roll during the live video on how I had used the Everything is Figureoutable “formula” with my breast reconstruction surgery. AND I got confetti! Confetti, people. Check out some of her public Q&A’s on her YouTube channel to see what I’m talking about, but it was pretty dang cool and made going into surgery that morning even easier for me. Thank you, Marie!!
Since we did’t get into town early enough to have my pre-surgery appointment when the clinic was open, I had it that morning just before the surgery.
Stay tuned for Rewind: Post Stage Two Surgery
